Sum up

I'm a blogging failure.
It's been way too long since I've posted. I'm sure my one subscriber is really mad at me.
ANYWAY This is just going to be a little update on my crazy past month or so. So, let's begin with the thing that consumed my life since January.
Show Choir Competitions.
Yes, I have expressed this in my blog before. I am a show choir nerd. A gleek. A freak that breaks out into random song and dance. The first through third weekends of March were taken over by show choir competitions, the pride and joy of the midwest...kind of. I'll give you a rundown of what a typical competition consists of.

  • 3:30am wakeup call-get hair and some makeup done
  • 4:30am calltime-MUST BE AT SCHOOL BY THIS TIME
  • Vocal and dance rehearsal until 5:30...yes, I mean a.m. We sing and dance at 4 in the morning.
  • Load up the school bus and ride for 3 hours to the host school (2 of ours were in ft. wayne, the last one was in ohio)
  • 9am-arrive at the school, meet our hosts, get our homeroom set up, unload equipment truck, explore the school (aka find the cafeteria ASAP. Obviously the most important task of the morning.)
  • 11am-Perform!
  • Rest of the afternoon-watch other schools perform, eat (a lot), meet new people, watch soloists in the solo competition
  • 5pm-Ambassadors (our school's mixed choir) performs
  • 7pm-Finalists are announced. There are two sets of finals, one for unisex division (my choir), and one for mixed division. We made finals for every competition we went to.
  • Between 8-9pm-We perform for finals
  • Between 10-11pm-Ambassadors perform for finals
  • Sometime around 12 or 1am-awards.
  • Then the 3 hour bus ride back home.
That equals more than 24 hours of constant singing, dancing, and NO SLEEP. Try that for 3 weekends in a row...it was ridiculous. However, I had the time of my life. I got really close with the girls in my choir, and the Ambassadors too. I know I mentioned in an earlier post that we started becoming like a family...you can imagine the family feel after being with each other constantly for 3 weeks straight. We're basically inseparable. Overall, we did really well! We got 1st, 3rd, and 2nd out of about 16 choirs at each competition. The Ambassadors swept every competition...no surprise. They were incredible this year.
Now you're probably wondering, what in the world is a competition set? Well, I will conveniently link our set AND the Ambassadors set on this post. Here's a hint...there are 4-5 songs in each set. Click on the links in order! Feel free to watch...or not. It's whatever.
ACCENTS SET
If you like New York City, hats, birds, poodle skirts and lots and lots of crinoline, you'll love our set!
AMBASSADORS SET
If you like chair dancing, Fergie (in the musical Nine), and tambourines, you'll love their set! (you're interested now, am I right?)

Now that I've bored you once again with yet another show choir rant, I'll move on to something that might scare less people off. How about spring break! I went to the quaint little Sanibel Island, right off of Fort Meyers. It was delightful. After nonstop go go go for the past 3 months, it was so nice to have a week of...well, nothing. I literally woke up every morning, walked on the beach, came back, took a nap by the pool, went to the beach, took another nap on the beach, went out to dinner and ate ice cream every. single. day. it was lovely.
Now I must go to the store because our pantry is empty. NOT OK.

  1. dear sweet darling khouzin of mine, let me break down my thoughts while reading your stupendhouz posht.

you wake up at 330?! dear lord child. i actually know how you feel on that one, sometimes i have to wake up that early to work when i open the store. its brutal with a capital B.

youre rehearsing at 430??! what kind of people do you work with? were they previously employed at guantanamo? or maybe theyre simply sadistic. i can barely squeak out a sentence at that point in the morning and you have to sing and dance. yous a badass, cuz.

i do agree with you on the caf part. finding the right spot in the caf is crucial. you want to be near the food source yet far enough away so theres not constant foot traffic for random sleeps. i gotchu girl.

okay so im watching your sets now. i will give my commentary. i hope you enjoy. OHMYGODITSSOSPECTACULARICANTEVENCOMPREHEND. your program is suuuper badass. way to pick a school, chica.
